Chapter 6 - Some unortodox deliviery

 The next day she travelled down to the consignment shop to inform Wanda that she might not be in for a while.
-I have some private buisness to attend to, she told the shopkeeper.
-If he is married you stay away from him, you here me?
Rose frowned. Did everyone have an oppinion about her relationship with Stein? Did everyone KNOW?!

She had planned the experiment thouroughly. Jotted down every single detail of what needed to be done. Never the less. When the machine had stopped humming and sparkling and a life living real baby could be found instead of the testtube she could not believe her eyes. Even so small she could see that her daughter had Steins eyes and feature. A perfect clone, except for being a girl instead of a boy! She named her perfect daugter Liv - after the life she had created.

 

After some thoughts she decided that her beutiful little girl needed a brother too. She decided to name him Ulv. To make it really perfect she used her own DNA for this project. It was a really strange feeling to hold her son in her arms and look into his eyes and see a small male copy of herself. But the first akward feeling of being a mother of two all of a sudden soon vanished. 

 

The following weeks were hectic, real hectic. But she loved every second of it. And although neither Liv nor Ulv had come from her own womb they were still very precious to her. The sweet children were like angels and did not give much trouble.

Liv was her favorite one. She knwe from all parentingbooks she read that she should not have any favorites. But how could she not? When she had both Steins eyes and smile. Rose was not sure, but at times she could bet that Liv had inherited Steins talents as well. Hard to tell from the sound of banging on the xylophone...

Stein had called several times during the weeks following. But she ignored his called. She did not know really what to tell him:
-Hi Stein, how have you been? Oh and by the way this is your clone-daughter Liv?!
But it was hard to manage 2 small children as a singel mother. So at times she made sure she called in help.

She got huge help from the nanny-service. But all the same it was exhausting to be a mom and Rose made sure she got as much sleep as she could when she got a quiet moment. But she could not remember when she got a whole nights sleep. Powernaps however was something she became something of an expert on.

Over the days that followed she continued  to use her research to improve on allready existing seeds. One morning, she pressed the wrong button and before  she had the chanse to stopp it a totally new and unknown process were initiated. The result was three strangelooking seeds. They were seeds she never seen before. Squarelooking seeds that almost had seemed to buzz with a strange energy.

 

At first she thought she just throw them away as failures. But then she changed her mind and planted them next to her other plants. Her curiosity took over put simply. Now she just wished that it would not kill her as with the cat!

 

Days and weeks came and passed and she brooded over her strange plants, almost like a hen over her eggs. And then the dawn arrived when it was time....

 

She started to pull and drag at the greenery of the first plant. It looked almost like a carrot she thought for herself. But paler. Almost green even. Was it even ripe? And then with an audible *Poop* the root gently was sheeted from the soil that had been its womb. Rose looked at it with curiosity. Hold up against the morning light it looked almost life-like. And then she blinked.

 

Later, when telling the story she would swear to that it would only be a second. But when she opened her eyes again she held a baby in her arms. A real, living baby. The skintone was green as before. But the wailing made it quite obvious that it was a living, breathing baby.  What on earth would she do now?

 

Rose did some quick calculations and realised that she did have the budget to buy a new crib for the baby-plant (or maybe plant-baby?). She totally did not understand what had happened here. But she put that aside as she realised that how strange it may look like, she could not just abandon this little green hobbit to a cruel fate of composting. And how strange would it be anyway? She allready was the mother of two cloned children. Why not add to that? When she thought about it she decided to buy three cribs. After all she had planted 3 seeds....

 



She had just finished grooming her garden that evening, when her phone rang.

-Hello? Ms Abbott? This is intendent Shaw from the Institution of Progress. I am afraid I have some bad news....

OK, this looked like a very funny roll on paper: Single with 5 children. Hey, lets try that! Hey, lets jump of the bridge too! Duh! After the "triplets" were born utter, hellish chaos followed. First I though: Oh, just need to survive this through toddler-state then they will go out and be all planty on me. Phew! Nope - did not happen. There I get for not trying things out before I add it into a legacy. So here I am now with 5 small children and really no money at all....  Too bad I cant sell my plasma bug.... OR the curious gnomes that apparently have taken residence in my garden . But I am hanging in there!
